Ichiro’s Malt Chichibu #2345. Chichibu distillery in Saitama, Japan is open in 2008, and is the country’s first new distillery since Suntory open Hakushu back in 1973. Chichibu is the brainchild of Ichiro Akuto, grandson of the founder of the legendary Hanyu distillery. The Ichiro’s Malt brand appears in 2005. And rose to fame through the bottling of the last casks from Hanyu, particularly the sought after ‘Card’ series. The first Chichibu releases appears under it in 2011.
This stunning release from the excellent Chichibu distillery is a single cask whisky. That is age for 6 years in an ex-bourbon barrel and bottle at a cask strength of 60.6% in 2019. The simple but beautiful label features a jumping boar. Presumably in reference to the 2019 Zodiac year. While a plethora of information on the creation of the whisky is list underneath. It tells you everything from the cask number, to the number and type of washback stills used (x8 Mizunara) and even the types of heating system and line arms. It helps to bring you closer to the whisky making process, while showcasing the purity and provenance of this particular expression at the same time. It’s a nice touch from Chichibu and we’re happy to say that the whisky inside is of the highest quality, delivering a drinking experience to remember. Ichiro’s Malt Chichibu #2345
This whisky has been aged in single ex-Bourbon cask #2345 for 6 years. It was bottled in 2019 to celebrate the Year of the Wild Boar.
Nose: Balanced notes of stone fruit, honey & hay that evolves into a malty fruit basket when opened up.
Palate: Classic lushness synonymous with Chichibu whiskies with initial notes of allspice followed by deep notes of warm dates, citrus peel & toffee.
Finish: Long, lingering & rich with beautiful hints of almond brittle and a subtle sweetness to match.
