Buy Benromach 1974 41 Year Old online. How nice of Benromach to release a new, super rare whisky right in the middle of my Benromach Extravaganza. They don’t have many casks left from before the closure in 1983, let alone from the seventies, so a single cask bottling from 1974 is not something we’ll see many more of in the future.

This Benromach 1974 has matured for 41 years in a sherry butt. After that long there was still enough left to fill 452 bottles at 49,1 percent. The design for this bottle is similar to the 35 year old Benromach, which was released only a couple of months ago.

Benromach 1974/2016 (49,1%, OB, C#1583)

Nose: We immediately dive well into old school territory with furniture polish, leather and an earthy/dunnage warehouse quality. Some fruity influences with fresh oranges and raisins, but also tobacco leaves, dark chocolate and some of that signature menthol.
Taste: Sweet cane sugar, raspberries and blackberries. If you swallow your sip it transforms into varnish, cigar tobacco and menthol. Lots of oak and tannins (and that’s saying something coming from a guy who likes his whisky quite oak-y). Slighty drying. Buy Benromach 1974 41 Year Old online
Finish: Licorice with a hint of peat smoke and menthol. Ending on a subtle ash-y note.

Without a doubt a very good whisky, but I do feel it is past its prime. The wood has gotten a hold of the palate, and it doesn’t let go. I liked the new 35 year old better.

Brora 30 Year Old 2002 Inaugural Release

Brora distillery (originally known as Clynelish) is build by the Duke of Sutherland in 1819. Prize by blenders, the distillery found itself in the hands of DCL in 1925 when they acquires shareholders, Ainslie & Heilbron and John Walker & Sons. DCL close the distillery in 1967 after opening a new, larger Clynelish next-door, but re-open the first site, now rename as Brora the following year. Bottlings of the whisky it produce between then and its second closure in 1983 are now increasingly sought after. It is never bottle officially as Brora during its years of operation, and the Rare Malts Selection in 1995 is the first distillery bottlings to bear the name. In 2017 it is announce that Diageo plan to re-open this formerly lost gem.

The Rare Malts Selection releases is there follow by an annual distillery bottling as part of the Diageo special releases each year. The first of these is release in 2002, launching an official Brora single malt brand for the first time, and the last one is bottled in 2017.

This 30 year old is the inaugural 2002 release and is one of 3,000 bottles.

Owned by Invergordon Distillers from 1968 until 1993, when it joined the Whyte & Mackay portfolio, Bruichladdich closed in 1995. At the time it produced an unpeated malt primarily used for blends. Whilst well-known for its bourbon casks released in 10, 15 and 21 year old versions, it was above all the sherry-cask versions selected and bottled for the Italian market that made a lasting impression. It was for Moon Import that Penny Black 1968 and Bruichladdich 1965 (52%) – celebrating the marriage of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer – were bottled in ceramic jugs.Bought in December 2000 by Mark Reynier and reopened in May 2001, the distillery has since released endless limited editions and exclusive bottlings, including a superb 40 year old, several 1970 and 1972 vintages, and the Legacy range, primarily featuring bottlings from the late 1960s.

This extremely rare 16 year old Islay single malt was laid to rest at the Bunnahabhain distillery way back in December 1965 and bottled by Wm Cadenhead in September 1982.

Filled at 46% ABV, this outstanding rarity from the Islay stalwarts comes in the familiar old-style dumpy bottle.

Aromas of stewed fruit, allspice, dark chocolate and rich peat smoke fill the nose, complemented by notes of damp autumn leaves, leather, oak spice, mocha, smoked meat and earthy bonfire ash throughout the palate.
