Yamazaki Limited Edition 2016. The third instalment of an annual limited edition series from Suntory. A combination of Yamazaki vintages and credit to Suntory’s chief master blender Shinki Fukoyo. A blend of young single malts from a combination of American oak casks. Bourbon barrels and single malts that have aged for over 20 years in European oak. Port wine and sherry casks.
However. Following the success of the Distillers Reserve editions of Hakushu and Yamazaki. They have decided to release an older, more exclusive limit edition of the Yamazaki single malt. The 2016 release is distinguishable from previous releases by virtue of the image depicting one of Yamazaki’s warehouses on the bottle. As opposed to previous releases which bore images such as stills or the distillery itself.
Moreover. Similar to previous editions, the Yamazaki Limited Edition 2016 is compose of three single malts. A single malt aged 20 years in sherry casks is use for maturating red wines, another single malt aged 20 years in port wine casks made out of European oak. Previously use for maturing port wines and a young single malt aged in bourbon barrels made out of American white oak.

Overall: Stronger sherry notes as compared to the 2015 Limited Edition. We absolutely enjoyed this complex yet well-balanced whisky. From the nose to the palate, you are taken on an adventure of scents and tastes, and the finish wraps it up perfectly. If you are a sherry head… you will fall in love again with this whisky!
